Executive Officer Update

Thank you to everyone who has supported, subscribed and liaised with Site Contamination Prevention Australia in 2015.
I would especially like to thank Ross McFarland and Ivan Kwan for their roles as Chief Assessor and Deputy Chief Assessor in helping to guide the consolidation and forging of the assessment processes in 2015, which is a keystone component of the Site Contamination Prevention Australia scheme. I would also like to thank those who volunteered their time to participate in the assessment subcommittee, each person spending between 30 to 40 hours of their own time reviewing applications; without this contribution we would have no scheme- your efforts are greatly appreciated and valued.
At the end of 2015, I am happy to report we have 42 certified practitioners endorsed across Australia and a robust assessment process which is being reviewed and improved upon with every iteration.

Site Contamination Prevention Australia Survey
Having worked the last twelve months to implement and establish Site Contamination Prevention Australia in the contaminated site landscape, it is important to get a feel for what you think of progress to date. The Site Contamination Prevention Australia survey was one way I could collect feedback from those of you who have had contact with the scheme and I am grateful for those who took the time to make comment. It is an important barometer for me in particular in being able to raise issues and questions you might have with the National Executive Committee.

As promised, each respondent went into a draw to win one of three $100 gift vouchers and I hope Site Contamination Prevention Australia has been able to contribute to some Christmas cheer.
I would like to congratulate the three draw winners of the survey;
Carly Clark
Stuart Taylor
Peter Topliss
Who each won $100 gift voucher.
Results for the survey are in a separate blog. I have tried to capture the majority of responses, and the general feedback. If there is something you would like to add, please let me know or you can post it on the Site Contamination Prevention Australia forums.
I will be acting on many of the suggestions made in the survey, including one on getting interviews with certified practitioners about their experience of certification and how it has impacted their business. So I look forward to contacting you in the new year and getting your take on how certification adds value.

Site Contamination Prevention Australia subscribers forum
As Site Contamination Prevention Australia begins to mature, we are keen to develop and encourage communications between practitioners in the sector. One suggestion was to establish a forum where people could provide feedback on courses and seminars as well as any issues pertaining to certification and professional development. Acting on this we have created the Site Contamination Prevention Australia forums and invite subscribers to post comments, ask questions or raise any issues they would like to discuss with colleagues who have contributed to Site Contamination Prevention Australia.

The main purpose of the Site Contamination Prevention Australia forums are to;

  • Build a community which can share information specific to the assessment, management and remediation of contaminated sites.
  • Provide an environment where subscribers to the SCPA scheme can provide feedback and discuss issues relevant to SCPA and to certification.
  • Provide feedback and or discussion on training outcomes or experiences

We encourage you to visit the forum at: http://scpaustralia.com.au/forums/ and post a question or comment on an issue that you wish to discuss. This could be any number of things, including feedback on training courses or seminars undertaken, raising requests for different types of workshops, and comments how we might improve Site Contamination Prevention Australia service to the contaminated site community. Anyone can view the forum, however, to post comments or start a topic you will have to log in as a subscriber. If you have any questions or concerns about the forums, please let me know- paul.saeki@scpaustralia.com.au

Round 5 closing on December 31st, 2015.
The next round for certification applications will close on December 31st, 2015. The outcomes of these applications will be known in early April, 2016.
